2011 Tennis Season Begins

The 2010 season just ended and already the new season begins is just a week in Perth Australian for the Hopman Cup and in Abu Dhabi for an exho featuring Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.

Venus Williams will also play an exho against Barbara Schultz next week. Venus's sister Serena Williams is still on the mend from a foot injury she suffered while in Europe post-Wimbledon.

What's Up With Roger Federer?

What happened to the great Roger Federer?

Just a few years ago he was winning everything under the sun. Now he's losing to everyone, and if it were not for an Australian Open title he'd have zero wins in almost a year!!!

Roger is getting older - he turns 29 next month - and with it he does get slower. But the cat is losing on hardcourts, clay and as we all saw at Wimbledon and even at halle, he's now losing on grass!

When will it end? Or have we seen the best of Roger.

Federer is now dropped to No. 3 in the rankings for the first time since 2004 or so. With that drop and Nadal playing so well it's very difficult to ever see Roger getting back to No. 1.

Think about it. He's going to be 29. Nadal is 24 and entering his prime. How is Roger going to win 2-3 Slams in the next 12 months to get back to no. 1?

Oh, snap. Roger said he was injured during Wimbledon. He claimed a back and leg injury that hurt his play. Let's hope that's it.

Bottom line, he needs to have a good summer - will he even play? - and get back to wining titles!

French Open Prediction: Rafael Nadal Will Win

You heard it here first, Rafael Nadal will win the French Open which starts on Sunday. Nadal will rise to the challenge and make up for his shocking loss in the fourth round last year to Robin Soderling and capture his fifth Roland Garros trophy.

My intuition tells me Nadal will beat his countryman and fellow left hander Fernando Verdasco in the final 6-4, 6-1, 6-3. That's right, mark it down.

Federer will lose to Verdasco in the semifinals. Nadal will feats on David Ferrer.

Nadal will also lose just two sets going for his title. He will dominate again.

Predicting the women's winner is also easy. It will be Justine Henin who's back playing her first French Open in a few years.

Justine has a broken left pinkie but that won't bother her. In fact, nothing will!

Serena will have a French Open and so will Jelena Jankovic who will lose to Justine in the final 6-4, 7-5.

If you want to know the doubles champions, i'll give that to you also. No charge. It's free.

The men's doubles champions will be the Bryan twins!

Andre Agassi Showed No Class

For a guy who runs a highly regarding preparatory academy in his hometown of Las Vegas, Andre Agassi sure has a thing or two to learn about class!

I am of course blogging about the much-discussed events that took place last Friday night at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden when four of the greatest names in all of tennis - Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Pete Sampras and Agassi - made an apperance for a fun tennis evening in the Hit for Haiti fundraiser.

With the help of Oracle and tournament CEO Larry Ellison, the event raised over $1 million dollars, but what people will remember the most is the way Agassi acted.

The guy who revealed he took meth during his playing days seemed to be back on the drug during the match. Agassi looked like a non-stop jitterbug who wouldn;t shut up.

And when Sampras became the butt of another Agassi joke, enough was enough. Pete was visibly upset that Agassi brought up that Pete was a poor tipper.

Bottom line, bringing up tipping habits has no place in a charity event like that. Agassi should know better, and he did by later apologizing.

Will Andy Murray Ever Win a Major

Roger Federer beat up on Andy Murray again last weekend in the final of the Australian Open.

Murray had led Federer 6-4 in their 10-match head-to-head before the showdown. But after as was stated on ESPN, it was Federer 6-0 in sets in two career finals against Muzza in Majors.

Had Federer not been in the final would Murray still have won? He would have been the favorite that I know after he beat Rafael Nadal, but one has to question whether Murray's defensive game can take him to Major win.

All of Britain must what that much longer for another male champion.

Roddick rolling early, test Gasquet next

Andy Roddick has showed no signs of trouble with his left knee.

The 27-year-old American injured that knee back on October 13th in Shanghai, and after taken a few months to rest and rehab the former No. 1 seems fit and ready to go.

Roddick is playing in his first event of the year in Brisbane, and he's already posted a couple wins including a 76 63 victory over Australian Carsten Ball.

But Roddick now will have his hands full with talented Frenchman Richard Gasquet in the quarterfinals. It was Gasquet who beat Andy at Wimbledon a few years back.

Also in the quarterfinals, Tomas Berdych meets Thomasz Belluci, Gael Monfils meets James Blake and Radek Stepanek faces Wayne Odesnik.

By my count, that's three Americans in the quarterfinals! No Bad!
